Hi,

since I have received so many requests in the past months concerning
the license of kramdown, I have decided to release kramdown under the
MIT license from now (version 1.0.0) on - enjoy!

Best,

I don't think it was a problem before (and certainly not for 0.5.0).

No, you're saying it's worth looking at now, what was the problem before, the license? We're essentially linking to a GPL version before (and I guess kind of still are). I would expect this to fall under the same exception as Java libraries. In 0.5.0 the user decides the engine and version and everything, so it's really up to the user.

Re: Fwd: kramdown now MIT licensed!

I think he was just pointing out it's more our style of license...at least that was my thought.

Either way, the choice is now in the hands of our users. Our template engine is now based on Tilt, so you just set your impl in site.yml and you can use whatever you want (Tilt supports them all).

There is the question of the default. We could update that selection.

Btw, did you see the lead of RedCarpet is shopping around for a new maintainer?

In reply to this post by LightGuard
Haven't worked on awestruct for a while now - so not exactly sure what
the current state is.
But we had some trouble with the markdown engine before and I was then
shopping around.
IIRC kramdown was a good candidate but I didn't want to introduce a
GPL dependency.
Not sure it was GPL with the linking exception. But anyway - if it's
not broken we don't need to fix it.

I just remembered this and so thought I pass the information along.
I guess now it's only about the default engine anyway.

cheers,
Torsten

Things are looking good. We are on the verge of a 0.5.0 release which will offer choice of template engines and development servers. Flexibility FTW.

Yep, which is great news for users.
